"MEDI(t)Ations: Adrian Piperís Videos, Installations,
and Soundworks 1968-1992"
2000-08-06 until 2000-11-05
Museum of Contemporary Art, LA
Los Angeles, CA,
MOCA at California Plaza
MEDI(t)Ations is a survey of Adrian Piperís work from the
past twenty-five years and is the first exhibition to bring
together nearly all of Piperís video and audio work. Prolific
in media and time-based art, Piperís work bridged the
movements of Minimalism, Conceptual Art, and Performance
Art, and over time became increasingly more political. She
examines issues of racial stereotyping, miscegenation, and
passing, and through this charged content, Piper seeks to
restructure the viewerís perception of these issues.
included in the exhibition are video and audio interviews with
the artist. The exhibition is organized by independent curator
Dara Meyers-Kingsley and is accompanied by an illustrated
catalogue Adrian Piper: A Retrospective 1965-2000.
Published in conjunction with her retrospective exhibition,
organized by the University of Maryland Baltimore County
Fine Arts Gallery, the catalogue includes critical essays by
Piper and critic Laura Cottingham. The exhibition is
coordinated by MOCA Associate Curator Connie Butler.
