Indepth Arts News:
"Curios and Treasures at The Costume Institute"
2000-08-15 until 2001-01-21
Metropolitan Museum of Art
New York, NY,
USA
Drawn from the Costume Institute's holdings of some 75,000 objects
spanning seven centuries, this installation features clothing and
accessories that have never or rarely been on view. The selection
ranges from Elizabethan gauntlets and doublets to examples of such
19th- and 20th-century fashion phenomena as the Aesthetic Dress
movement, promoted through the work of the British firm of Liberty &
Co., and the designs of Mariano Fortuny, whose flowing silk creations
graced such luminaries as Isadora Duncan and Eleonora Duse.
