"Mary Ellen Mark: American Odyssey"
2000-08-26 until 2000-11-02
Fort Wayne Museum of Art
Fort Wayne, IN,
USA United States of America
From young rodeo riders to family living out of a car, this exhibition of
photographs represent the artist’s personal vision of what it means to
be American. Sometimes sad, sometimes funny, occasionally shocking
and bizarre, Mark’s work seeks the essence, the true nature of our
lives, and looks for the common thread that binds us all.
Aperture, a not-for-profit organization devoted to photography and the
visual arts, has organized this traveling exhibition and produced the
accompanying publications. Aperture gratefully acknowledges the
generous support of Mary Ellen Mark: American Odyssey from Annette
& Jack Friedland, Lynne & Harold Honickman and Marion Boulton
Stroud. Additional support provided by Buhl Foundation, New York, and
Sondra Gilman & Celso Gonzalez-Falla.
