"FIVE DECADES OF JULES OLITSKI"
2000-09-03 until 2000-10-22
Butler Institute of American Art
Youngstown, OH,
USA
The exhibition details Olitski’s evolution from the early paintings from the 1950s, to
the acclaimed abstractions of the 1960s and 70s, through the landscapes and
seascapes of the 1990s. One of the original masters of Color Field painting, Olitski’s
retrospective at the Butler includes works in a variety of paint media including oil,
acrylic, and watercolor, as well as a group of the artist’s steel sculpture and the
graphic suites from the 1970s.
A reception to honor the artist will be held October 15
from 1-3 pm at the Butler Institute. A catalogue with an essay/interview by James
Lilliefores, accompanies the exhibition. The exhibition was first seen at the
Philharmonic Center for the Arts, Naples, Florida.
