Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative
Westgate, NS,
AU
This exhibition will look at this by examining Boomalli in both historical and political contexts. By exhibiting works of art, mainly from the store rooms that are dealing with similar issues that Boomalli’s founding members were concerned with, the viewer will be able to see if these works of art are still applicable today, and in turn see if the social conditions that produced those works have changed.
Have issues changed for Aboriginal people in the last ten yearsNULL
Inserting Boomalli's posters of past exhibitions in between the works of art creates an historical backdrop that will give the exhibition a framework that anchors the works of art. Artists will include Gordon Hookey, Gordon Syron, Rea, Harry Wedge, Leone Denise, Michael Riley, Christine Christophersen and other artists that deal with similar issues.
The exhibition will be open for two weeks in the upstairs gallery while the down stairs gallery will feature the Granville TAFE students exhibition. These two exhibitions will talk well off each other, as the students from Granville TAFE are the new generation that will be continuing the battle. For this reason its great to support up and coming artists.
This exhibition will hopefully be run with an education program that will target education institutions giving them a complete history of Boomalli and affirming its importance to the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community.
