American Reflections: Photography Before the Civil War is a temporary
exhibit in the museum commemorating the Daguerreian Society Symposium
and Focus 2000. Containing over 200 daguerreotypes from two renowned
area collectors and rare examples from the museums collection it opens
October 21and will be on display through November 15. It is located in the
Great Hall between the furniture exhibit and the Wienermobile.
Showing more than 200 daguerreotypes from two privately-held collections, American Reflections features both well-known images and rare examples never before shown to the public. Henry Ford Museums collection is represented in the exhibition by a dozen fine daguerreotypes, including images of Native Americans, an artist, and a whole-plate image of a harvester.
Focus 2000 is a metropolitan Detroit area effort by art galleries and
museums to highlight historical and modern photographs during the month
of November.
Daguerreian Society Symposium, November 9-11
The Daguerreian Society, a national organization for collectors and historians
of early photography, will hold its annual symposium at Henry Ford Museums
Anderson Theatre.
