This selected survey of the work of Vancouver-based Stan Douglas will include three recent films/video projections and approximately 40 color photographs. Douglas combines cinematic techniques with new technologies to produce images that examine history through different viewpoints and pose questions not addressed by more traditional methods.

Using the languages of photography, television, and film, Douglas addresses complex issues of colonization, urban development, and mass media. His work has been exhibited internationally, including the 1997 Johannesburg Biennale, Documenta X, and Skulpture Projects Munster. Organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery, the exhibition is coordinated by MOCA curator Ann Goldstein.

Stan Douglas was organized and circulated by the Vancouver Art Gallery with support from The Canada Council for the Arts and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Canada. The Los Angeles presentation is made possible in part by the New Media Project.
