"365: AIGA Annual Design Exhibition"

AIGA conducts an annual juried national competition that draws more than
4,000 entries of all forms of graphic design. This premier annual exhibition
showcases the entrants functional, strategic and aesthetic qualities. Judged this year by Gayle Christensen (Federal Express,
Memphis), Karin Fong (Imaginary Forces, Los Angeles), Tom
Geismar (Chermayeff & Geismar Inc., New York), Russ Haan
(After Hours Creative, Phoenix), Maira Kalman (M&Co., New York)
and Margaret Youngblood, chair (Landor Associates, San
Francisco). Under the name of “AIGA Communication Graphics”,
this country’s premier design competition sets the standards for
the profession. Through the exhibition of the selections, AIGA
addresses its commitment to evaluating design in the broader
context of commerce and culture.
Ranging from
printed materials and packaging to interactive communications, some of this
year’s winners include:
- Martha by Mail Bean Labels, by Gael Towey, Martha Stewart Living
Omnimedia
- Hip Hop Week Spot, by Randi Davis, MTV Networks
- Insects and Spiders U.S. Postage Stamps, by Terrence McCaffrey
- E*Trade Group, Inc., Annual Report 1999, by David Broom, Broom & Broom
The exhibition will run through March 30, 2001. AIGA is located at 164 Fifth
Avenue; gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Admission is free of charge.
