The Indonesian-born artist and filmmaker who now lives in The Netherlands will have her
first solo exhibition in the U.S. at the Wadsworth Atheneum. Tan often works with stock
footage or images she finds in film and photographic archives, which she interweaves with
her own footage (sometimes of herself) and a text to form a new narrative.
The artist has
written, The recycling of film fragments or photos breathes new life into the images; they
are liberated from the harness of their original context. Recycling makes it possible to see
images in a new way. Tan will transform the MATRIX gallery with an installation
featuring recent video works.
