Indepth Arts News:
"Picasso Ceramics: Selections from the Bercuson Collection at the Museum of Art,
Fort Lauderdale"
2001-05-19 until 2001-08-26
Everson Musuem of Art
Syracuse, NY,
USA
This exhibition comes from the Bernie Bercuson Collection of Picasso Ceramics at
the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale. The collection contains pieces ranging from
1947 to 1971, the entire period of Picasso’s involvement with ceramics, showing his
development within the medium.
Over 50 ceramic objects in the exhibit—including
pitchers, platters, plaques, and vases—demonstrate Picasso’s use of designs and
themes from other cultures such as primitive, tribal-like depictions of animals and
figures, as well as those from his own Spanish heritage. Picasso wanted to succeed in
creating a truly popular art of complete artistic integrity through the widespread
diffusion of high-quality work.
