"Michelangelo: Drawings and Other Treasures
from the Casa Buonarroti, Florence"
2001-06-23 until 2001-09-02
High Museum
Atlanta, GA,
USA
Following the High's presentation, the exhibition will travel to
only one other U.S. venue, the Toledo Museum of Art in September 2001. The
exhibition will contain many works by Italy's most famous
artist, Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564), that have never
before been displayed in this country alongside works by other
artists and memorabilia from the artist's family home, Casa
Buonarroti, in Florence, Italy.
The High's presentation will
triple the number of works of art in the United States by
Michelangelo. By most counts there are less than a dozen
drawings by Michelangelo in American collections and no
paintings or sculpture. Now two dozen superb sketches and
preparatory studies for such important works as the Sistine
Chapel and the Medici Tombs will travel to Atlanta's High
Museum of Art.
Michelangelo: Drawings and Other Treasures from the Casa Buonarroti, Florence is organized by the High Museum of
Art in conjunction with the Casa Buonarroti, Florence.
