The Gold Coast City Art Gallery is proud to host the Gold Coast Quilters Guild exhibition A Treasury of Quilts 2001. Consisting of almost 150 Quilts from members, this exhibition promises to showcase a dazzling array of technical mastery and creativity. An extraordinary number of different quilting techniques will be represented.
Gold Coast City Art Gallery Manager, John Walsh said We are delighted to fill the Gallery with works of art made with such passion and enthusiasm. An exhibition like this shows us the incredible dimension of creative activity in our community.
The Gallery walls are filled with a visual feast made in continuation of an important and dynamic tradition said Mr Walsh.
Quilts carry stories about our history and encompass memories and identity often through an unspoken language - the development of needlework can provide a rich insight into the lives of the people who have made them.
This exhibition celebrates the active quilters of the Gold Coast and reflects the nature of the Quilting tradition in this next century.
