2001-08-10 until 2001-10-13
Museum of Contemporary Photography
Chicago, IL,
USA
For the past three years, photographer Victor Skrebneski has been
purchasing photographic reprints from the Chicago Tribune and The
New York Times that he finds of great artistic merit. As guest-curator,
Skrebneski will present a selection of these photojournalistic images in
an installation that addresses how context defines, limits, or enhances
the meaning and import of photographs.
A Chicago native, Skrebneski has bad his own work published in every major magazine in the
United States and Europe, exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, and featured in
several books, including Skrebneski Portraits-A Matter of Record, Five Beautiful Women, Black
White and Color, BRAVI!, The Art of Haute Couture, and Steppenwolf Theatre Company: 25 Years of an Actors Theater. Skrebneski: The First Fifty years was exhibited at The Museum of Contemporary
Photography in 1999 and a book, of the same title was also released that year.
The opening reception for Fifty-cent Masterpieces will be held on August 9 from
5:00 to 8:00 pm in the galleries of the museum. The reception is free and all are welcome
