Every worthwhile exhibition is a personal journey. But one that involves the loss of one’s own past really is, Crossing the Line.
Perth photographer, Guy Vinciguerra takes us on a personal journey full of bitter-sweet memories in his new photographic exhibition, Crossing the Line.
“It all began”, he said, “when I passed by the factory my immigrant mother slaved in for twenty-five years to raise her family in this new country full of opportunities. I passed it almost every day, almost without noticing it, until, like too many things lately, it was gone.”
This was Northbridge. This was the tunnel. Sold to us as a godsend. But as also happens, the pesticides that help feed us, triggers the cancer within. A cancer that’s eaten the heart out of Northbridge. Orpheus like. Deep. Dead. Like the spent needle in the vein of a lifeless junkie. Someone’s son. Or daughter. Or father. Or wife. Or someone you once sat next to on the bus. And the scar it left won’t fade.
