In this latest manifestation, John Hanson & Richard Paul's interest in the
mechanics and reception of photography turns to the appeal of the studio
itself.
The residual glamour of the 24-hour studio, with its black coffee, black
walls and gaffer tape chaos, is teased out and pitched against the perfect
world of product images. The photographs of office supplies and their
suggestion of 9-5 conformity are fused with the looser framework of
photographers' studios, to create a hybrid photographic world.
The result is a 4-room installation at Hoxton Distillery, made up of
photographs, video and objects, made at the original studio.
A working studio for twenty years, the original Terry's Studio is now
closed.
... with themes like the disparity between space and image, caffeine-fuelled
migraines and pretty pictures, their work acts out its own twisted formalism.
Expect a quasi-celebratory exploration of questionable pleasures had by one
man in his darkened photo-cave.
