USA United States of America
The Humanitad Foundation, a non-profit organization based in London, promotes inter-cultural and inter-faith tolerance among all world nations through music, arts, and education. The Foundation is currently organizing a project called Monument to Mankind. They are looking for one sculptor from each nation (192) to each design and sculpt one block of sandstone that will represent his country's heritage and culture.
These blocks will then be constructed into a
Peruvian-style stepped pyramid; it will be the largest internationally collaborated arts project in history and will be a universal symbol of human fellowship. The monument will either be constructed in Turkey or the United Arab Emirates in July 2002, contingent upon the world political situation.
Each selected sculptor will be sponsored, with the assistance of arts and heritage councils and agencies, to attend a four-week art camp to work on the supplied blocks. Necessary tools, electricity, etc. that are not transportable will be provided as well as all catering, lodging, and transportation, etc. A nominal fee will be paid to each sculptor (exact sum has not been decided yet).
The application submission deadline date is March 30, 2002.
Please email, postal, or phone Torah Bontrager for further details regarding the subject dimensions, etc., a formal application, and/or any other questions you may have regarding this project.
