From the 16th until the 31st of March, Florida International University will
feature an exhibition of South Florida and Latin American Art at the Medici
Museum Palace in Seravezza city. This exhibition will mark the start of artistic, academic and cultural
exchange activities between FIU's School of Visual Arts and cultural and
artistic organizations from Lucca Province.
The works of 14 renowned Latin American artists, US citizens residing in
South Florida, and FIU art students will be presented.
The artists will include:
Jose Bedia (Cuba/South Florida),
Sebastian Spreng (Argentina/South Florida),
Kate Kretz (USA/South Florida),
Leonel Matheu (Cuba/South Florida),
Juan Carlos Liberti (Argentina),
Alekxey Sabido (Mexico/South Florida),
Tomas Ochoa (Ecuador),
Mirta Gomez (South Florida),
Eduardo del Valle (South Florida),
Adriana Carvalho (Brazil),
Ofra Ben David (South Florida),
Alejandro Trapani (Argentina),
Hector Borla (Argentina).
Facilitated by a delegation of academics, artists and students from Miami, a
series of workshops, seminars and conferences will take place in parallel to
the exhibition. This will be the framework within which the exchange of
knowledge and experiences between local residents and their American visitors
will occur.
With the cooperation of the Artist's Associations of Pietrasanta and
Seravezza, the studios of the sculptors and painters of these cities will be
opened up to the visiting delegation
In commemoration of The University and the art exhibition, a cocktail party
and gala dinner will be held to open and close the event, respectively.
Dr. Carol Damian, Associate Professor & Chair, FIU School of Visual Arts, is
the curator of the exhibits. Mirta Kozolchyk and Isaac Javier Perelman are
responsible for the overall development and coordination of the exhibition.
This project has received support from several important private and official
institutions and donators such as Seravezza Commune, Lucca Province, Aventura
Mall, Espiritu Santo Bank, and Versilia Bank, among others.
