Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD) is
proud to present To Drink the Sky, To Breathe the Sea: Selected Works
on Paper, selections from Walter King's solo exhibition at the
Centro Cutural Recoleta in Buenos Aires, Argentina last fall.
Presented in the Canzani Center Acock Gallery, the exhibition
runs from April 19 to July 14.
King describes his work as an expression of his internal
dialogues. The selections in this show represent three years of
studies and preliminary works on paper. Combining traditional oil
paint with stencils and other graphic means, King creates images
of stenciled sky and sea with sparse iconography, which is often
repeated throughout the works. King's scenarios get at his
sense of the larger physical and spiritual melee at work in the
world.
The exhibit is a selection of works that were originally part of a
solo exhibition that traveled to Buenos Aires in a cultural
exchange between that country and CCAD. In September famed
Argentine illustrator Hermenegildo Sabat sent more than 80
works for exhibit at CCAD. In November CCAD returned the
favor by sending King with an exhibition of his artwork, and a
group exhibition of works by nine Ohio illustrators. The
exchange was organized with help from the Ohio Arts Council.
To Drink the Sky, To Breathe the Sea: Selected Works on Paper will be on
exhibit in the Canzani Center Acock Gallery from April 19 to July
14. The Canzani Center is located on the corner of Cleveland
Avenue and East Gay Street (just south of the 100-foot-tall ART
sculpture). Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10
a.m. until 4 p.m.; Thursdays until 7 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9
a.m. until 3 p.m. Admission is free.
