"REINHILD BEUTHER: BEHOLDEN"
2002-04-27 until 2002-06-08
Focal Point Gallery
Southend-On-Sea, ,
UK United Kingdom
Reinhild Beuther is a photographer who uses photography as a means to a
very specific end. Beholden is a new commission and is the first in a
series of collaborations between Focal Point Gallery and University of
Hertfordshire Galleries. The work consists of four large-scale lightboxes
and a video piece.
Over the past five years, Reinhild Beuther has been fascinated by and
working with the overlaying of images, and in particular with those of
human faces and bodies. Beuther's interest lies where there are
relationships between the subjects of the images: couples, parents,
friends, relatives.
For 'Beholden', Beuther has created portraits of her closest family,
involving the artist, her partner and their son and their parents. The
result is a striking similarity in the structure of the faces and, yet,
such a difference in expression.
