Junk Love is on again for the third year running and Reverse Garbage is calling for entries.
Reverse Garbage has been operating for over 25 years saving over 8000 cubic metres of waste from going to landfill every year. Their annual art and design competition 'Junk Love' was created to provide an opportunity for artists and designers working with re-used materials to showcase their work; and to promote awareness of waste avoidance and re-use issues.
Narelle Mantle, the Community Relations and Education Manager, said 'Last years exhibition was really encouraging, there was some really thoughtful, innovative and beautiful works. There are so many artists and designers using our materials and Junk Love gives them the opportunity to exhibit in a context which fully supports their work. It's great for artists working with re-used materials to get a bit of recognition, for going that one step further in their art and design practice.'
The exhibition of finalists in August will offer positive and playful solutions to questions of resource re-use and sustainability; ranging from industrial design and architecture, to visual arts, furniture, clothing, jewellery and more.
'Junk Love' offers two major prizes of $500 each, for Art and Design, and Sustainable Design, as well as a host of smaller prizes in a number of categories.
Entries are open now and close on Monday 12th August. Please call Francesca Cathie or Narelle Mantle at Reverse Garbage on 02 9569 3132 for entry details.
