Concepts are being sought for site-specific installation works in the Mildura district which will involve a high level of collaboration between an artist and a science/social science professional.
Works must address the broad themes which the Mildura Palimpsest hasexplored since 1997 of land & water use and related environmental/social/sustainability issues in the Mallee district.
The project will be grant dependent and up to six concepts will be selected if applications are successful. It is anticipated that a notional budget of up to AU$10,000 will be available for each successful
concept (including artist's fee).
A post event publication is planned which it is hoped will include full
colour images of the realised works, artists/scientist team statements and
at least one commissioned essay. Realised works will also be documented on the Mildura Arts Centre web site.
Final site and related public liability negotiations will necessarily precede commissioning of selected works.
Concepts must include a brief rationale for the artwork including indication of a suitable type of site, initial concept drawing and brief installation description, C.V.'s for both artist and collaborator and at least 6 x 35 mm slides of relevant previous work.
Closing date for concepts: Wednesday 17 July 2002
Continuation of an uncurated Palimpsest event is being explored through La Trobe University, Mildura Campus & Sunraysia Institute of TAFE.
