"As a child I was always fascinated with biology and technology, the products
of nature and man. The questioning of my place and purpose within these
realms is the driving force behind my creative pursuits. My early work
reflects a fascination with the lens formed image and the tension between
that image on the two dimensional plane and how it exists in a three
dimensional world." - Scott Brightwell
"5 years ago I transferred my home to central Italy. This new landscape, with
dramatic light and soft pastel palettes, inspired a reawakening to
experience the landscape through the lens formed image. In this ongoing body
of work, I have continued the exploration of the soft ethereal world
produced from small 'low-fi' technologies (plastic and antique lenses).
These images have been produced without looking through the viewfinder thus
these worlds are felt from the landscape relying on my presence and
intuitive response to the changing world without reference from the eye.
This exploration of intuitive images in the Italian landscape, through fresh
eyes, mimics my own nearsighted childhood, my childhood myopia."
