"Keith Sharp: Recent Works"
2002-12-04 until 2002-12-29
MUSE Gallery
Philadelphia, PA,
USA United States of America
How many times have you ever heard someone react to something that they are looking at by saying, "That reminds me of…" or "That looks just like…" something else that they have seen before? Similar to old stereographic photographs, Sharp continues his Same While Different Series of photographic diptychs by juxtaposing two different images next to one another that are in some way similar. Also on view are some IRIS prints from the Anthropomorphic Series. Using scanned photographic images of everyday and ordinary subjects, Sharp adds cartoon-like facial features to give the subjects human-like or anthropomorphic qualities.
This exhibition runs from December 4 - 29, 2002. The artist's reception is Friday, December 6, 5:00 - 8:30 p.m. Hours are Wednesday through Sunday 12 - 5 p.m. The phone number of the gallery is (215) 627-5310. This is Sharp's second solo show at MUSE Gallery in Old City, Philadelphia.
Roberta Fallon of The Philadelphia Weekly calls Sharp's work "poetic leaps with whimsy and reverberations beyond visual cliché." John Grant of The City Paper writes that Sharp's work has the power to "satisfy the eye and subtly intrigue the mind." Victoria Donohoe of The Philadelphia Inquirer finds the connections that Sharp makes in his work are made in "memorable ways."
Sharp is a graduate of The University of the Arts and received a BFA in Photography and an MAT in Art Education. He resides and works in Media, PA. For a studio tour, please contact the artist. IMAGE:
