Lauren Greenfield was born and raised in Los Angeles, and graduated from Harvard in 1987. Her photographs have been published internationally, including:The New York Times Magazine, Time, Life, Smithsonian, American Photo. In 1993 she received the first photographic documentary grant sponsored by National Geographic for a project on Los Angeles youth.
She received the International Center of Photography's Infinity Award for "Young Photographer of the Year" in 1997. She was also awarded the 1997 National Press Photographers/Nikon Sabbatical Grant. Her first book, Fast Forward: growing up in the shadow of hollywood was published by Knopf in 1997. This successful study of the effect of money and fame on America's children has been acknowledged here, and abroad, as one of the best photographic documents to be produced in years. Her work has been honored by grants from the Maine Photographic workshops, The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, and Radcliffe College. Her work is in numerous collections including the Hallmark Collection, The Jewish Museum, The St. Louis Museum, and the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery.
