"Rodney Graham: A 5 Part Exhibition"
2003-02-15 until 2003-05-25
Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, K21 Kunstsammlung im Ständehaus
Dusseldorf, ,
DE Germany
Since the late seventies, the Canadian artist Rodney Graham (born 1949) has
developed complex works which serve as an exemplary exploration of the art
of the modern age and the contemporary situation of detachment from the
modern age. His works range from artists' books, music compositions and
talks on sculptures and architecture models to photos and films. They treat
central characters of modern culture such as Edgar Allen Poe, Richard
Wagner or Sigmund Freud as if they were popular legends of the cinema
screen. Graham injects his works with an underlying, sympathizing
criticism, thereby transforming them.
The exhibition will place the earlier, sometimes spectacular works in
context with the older works, in order to illustrate the conceptual
dimension and depth of his works.
The exhibition was organised in cooperation with Whitechapel Art Gallery,
London and mac, galeries contemporaines des Musées de Marseille.
