"Unpacking Design: Matali Crasset"
2003-02-28 until 2003-03-23
Victoria and Albert Museum
London, , UK

Matali Crasset, a rising French star of international furniture and product design, will showcase a selection of her quirky designs in the V&A’s Contemporary Space in February. Her designs are often humorous observations of design in everyday life. Installed in the main space will be 'Pop Up'. Neither furniture nor architecture, but a hybrid of both, the Pop Up is a structure that can be created on the floor of a room. Alongside will be shown 'Oritapi', a carpet that can be reconfigured as a child’s play zone.

Complementing these large obje cts will be a selection of Matali’s furniture and product designs. This will be the first exhibition of Matali Crasset’s work in the UK and is part of the French Designers Days festival organised by the French Cultural Institute.

Before opening her own studio in 1998, Matali Crasset was Head of Design with Philippe Starck at Thomson Multimedia. She currently designs for leading European manufacturers including Edra, Authentics and Dornbracht. Unpacking Design is a series of events that look in-depth at the working methods of today’s most interesting designers.
