At Stalke Gallery they have never tried to conceal their great passion for works
on paper and with this second show in their new space at Vesterbrogade 184,
which is titled Works on Paper – Dame Darcy, Neil Farber, Marcel Dzama and
Jacquelyn Tough the gallery will continue their long tradition of exhibiting art on
paper.
The four artists in the show have been chosen by gallery director Richard
Heller from California. Besides the medium, the four artists share a
combination of distorted pop sensibility and a dreaming, often nightmarish
imagination. The illustrator, doll crafter, musician and painter Dame Darcy
has created the comic book series ”Meat Cake”, which is a collection of
”frightful fairytales” as she herself puts it. For this show she will
exhibit original drawings from ”Meat Cake”. Neil Farber and Marcel Dzama are
both part of the ”The Royal Art Lodge” based in Winnipeg, Canada, and have
exhibited their elegant and yet mysterious small scale drawings
internationally. In their choice of motives such as Superheroes, bears,
birds, vixens and half-human creatures the two share as common interest, but
at same time both Farber and Dzama comes forth with a unique line. Jacquelyn
Tough works with watercolor drawings that explore the childhood as a place
and a time filled by myths and fantasies, which continues to influence you
after you have become an adult.
