"Call for Artists: 23rd Annual Juried Exhibition"

The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is now accepting entries for its 23rd annual juried fine art competition and exhibition, A Sense of Place: Continuity and Change in the New South. The postmark deadline for entries is July 18, 2003. The competition is open to all artists in the Southeastn USA ages 18 and up, and accepts works in the following media: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and mixed media.

The juror for the 2003 competition will be Tom Nakashima, nationally recognized painter and printmaker and current William S. Morris Eminent Scholar in Art at Augusta State University. Three $500 cash awards are available, and will be presented at a reception for participating artists on September 19, 2003.

WHEN: Deadline for entries: July 18, 2003.
The exhibition will remain on display in the Main Gallery of the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art Sept. 9-Oct. 24, 2003.

Founded in 1937, the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is a non-profit organization housed in the historic (1818) Nicholas Ware Mansion. Programs of the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art are supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. The Council is a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional funding is provided the Greater Augusta Arts Council through appropriations from the Augusta-Richmond County Commission Council, and by the Knox Foundation.
