Icaro Gallery is proud to announce the opening of their new exhibition entitled
Uncovered: The Male Nude, a group photography show. The opening reception was
Saturday June 14, 2003. The exhibition runs from June 14 through July 26, 2003.
The male nude figure has been the focus of artists since antiquity. Patrons and
collectors have commissioned public and private works throughout the ages. Greek and Roman statues of the male nude survive as tomb decorations, celebrations of heroes and conquests, as well as representations of their gods. Many churches are filled with paintings depicting angels, saints and cherubs as nude male figures. Michelangelo illustrated his attention to detail in his depiction of the male form in his masterpiece the Sistine Chapel. In more modern times photographers have celebrated the male nude in their work.
In Uncovered: The Male Nude Icaro Gallery highlights the talents of eleven
photographers. Each of these photographers has developed a unique style in their
approach to the male nude genre. The exhibition features Olivia Barrionuevo, Jeff
Compasso, Everett Engbers, Joseph Franklin, Lorenzo Gomez, Steve Henry, Randall
Lum, Stathis Orphanos, Daniel Perry, Tim Ricks and Brian To.
The exhibition also features related works by Alejandra Vernon and Brandon Jason Trask. Vernon has created a male series of mixed media collage paintings. She is well known for the exquisite detail she imparts to each painting. Trask has created a series of life body castings. These sculptures are made from live models. A special demonstration of his technique will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday July 12, 2003. Trask will make body castings from live models while some of the featured photographers will document the process in a photo shoot.
Icaro Gallery has gathered a broad range of male nude art available during this
exhibition. In addition to the photographs, collage paintings and body castings by the
featured artists the gallery will also present bronzes, ceramics and paintings. Collectors will appreciate the variety, value and quality of this collection.
