Anathematic: Constanze Zikos 1990-2003 is curated by guest curator Sue Cramer. This exhibition is
survey of works from the 1990s until today, including new works made specifically for this exhibition. Constanze Zikos‚ art is a
stylish combination of influences - Pop Art, Minimalism, geometric abstraction, decor, fashion and street-culture.
He delights in
fake, revived, popularised or imitated forms, such as recycled classical Greek patterns and motifs, and materials including laminex
and glomesh. His transformation of cultural forms infuses the language of abstraction with cultural reference and meaning.
By depicting flags and geometric patterns, Zikos' work considers how cultural motifs are utilised and transformed. The kitsch and homely quality of laminex is contrasted with the symbolic forms that question aspects of identity.
