The Foothills Art Center in Golden, Colorado, invites entries to the 13th North American Sculpture Exhibition (NASE), a biennial event. Initiated in 1979, NASE has grown in size, outreach and awards, and claims a roster of former jurors who have achieved great honor among American sculptors, including Donald Lipski, Alison Saar, Jesus Bautista Moroles, Peter Shelton, Manuel Neri and Francisco Zuniga.
This year’s juror is James Surls, internationally renowned for his large-scale sculptures constructed of wood and steel. His work is represented in the permanent collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. Surls has earned numerous honors for his work, from a 1979 National Endowment of the Arts Fellowship to the 1991 Texas Artist of the Year award. Surls received his B.S. from San Houston State College in Huntsville, Texas, and his M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI.
Slides are due at Foothills Art Center on Friday, December 12, 2003. Artists may submit slides for as many as three sculptures, and each sculpture may be represented by two slides showing different views. There is a non-refundable entry fee of $10 per sculpture.
Installed, the exhibition will include approximately 60 works showcasing the best in contemporary sculpture from throughout North America. Over $10,000 in awards will be designated by the juror.
