Lawrence Street Gallery, now at its new location in Ferndale, will host two solo exhibitions of paintings by Patrice Erickson and Margaret Nern from January 6 - 31, 2004. Patrice Erickson's collection exhibits realist images depicting a variety of subject matter including figurative, landscape, and floral still life. Margaret Nern, creates works using mixed media on paper.
Patrice Erickson's pieces are rendered in oil using traditional painting techniques. "Working in a contemporary realistic manner challenges me both technically and emotionally. I strive to present the viewer with recognizable imagery that suggests a deeper meaning, leaving room for multiple interpretations," says Erickson, a Rochester Hills artist who is also a member of this artist cooperative gallery.
Works by Margaret Nern, created using mixed media on paper, are inspired by the variety of light, color, and texture in nature including plants and animals, as well as the landscapes of the Mid-west, the Southwest, and the ocean shore. "My art fulfills a need to recreate and interpret the beauty, ideas and emotions around me. I look at my work as translation rather than representa-tion, striving for some dream quality in my work," says Nern, also from Rochester Hills.
Over 50 area artists' works will be on exhibit in the gallery for the month of January. Lawrence Street Gallery is located at 22620 Woodward Avenue, Suite A, Ferndale, MI.
