Join us in Descubrimientos04 (Discoveries04), PHotoEspaña's portfolio review sponsored by Zurich. This is your chance to show your work to a committee of international experts, a challenge designed to help you make your way in the professional photography market. It’s also an opportunity to promote your work and receive advice from the participating specialists from diverse fields of photography, including exhibition curators, museum, gallery and art centre directors, editors of trade publications, directors of prestigious photography festivals and representatives of institutions linked to the medium.
You just have to present a photographic project containing no more than 15 images (B/W or colour) on paper (photographic paper or laser photocopies). The format must not exceed 30 x 40 cm (12 x 16 inches). Fill out the registration form and send it with your portfolio to the Festival headquarters before May 9th, 2004. The presentation of portfolios to this convocation is free of charges.
An expert jury, headed by Horacio Fernandez, the Festival's artistic director, will select a maximum of 60 works to participate for the final stage of Descubrimientos04. The evaluation criteria are based on interest, coherence and originality of the projects, and on the conceptual quality and/or technique of the works. The names of the finalists will be announced on May 15 in www.phedigital.com.
If you are among the finalists, you will have to choose eight experts (out of 20) that you would like to review your work with you. The portfolio review will take place on June 14th and 15th, during the Festival. The finalists have to pay a registration fee of 150 euros, which includes both the portfolio review and accreditation for all events of the Festival.
PHotoEspaña: Your chance to be discovered. The winner of the Festival's portfolio review will receive the Descubrimientos Best Portfolio Prize: an exhibition in PHotoEspaña 2005. Images from all finalists will be shown at a special projection session during the Festival, and for one year www.phedigital.com will host a microsite showing each finalist's curriculum and images.
Portfolios that are not selected can be picked up at La Fábrica, Calle Alameda 9, 28014 Madrid, from May 14th to May 30th (Monday to Thursday, from 9 am. to 2.30 pm. and from 4 to 7 pm.; Friday, from 9 am. to 3 pm.) PHE04 will only return works if this is specifically requested in the portfolio, in which case the author must indicate the address to which the portfolio is to be sent Collect on Delivery (COD). The Festival organisation will inform those selected in due time about the deadline for receipt of the registration fee.
