Darren Baker is pleased to announce a major showing of his work, celebrating his artistic career since graduation in 1998. The exhibition (sponsored by the respected Yorkshire solicitors, Last Cawthra Feather) will be a showcase of the range, subject concepts and techniques of Baker’s work. Following on from Darren’s successful 2003 culminating in the Holmfirth art show, which broke all previous visitor and sale records, it is expected this event will be eagerly anticipated by his collectors and general art lovers alike.
'Since graduating from Bradford college in 98, Darren has worked tirelessly to get a foothold in the art world. He was fortunate to receive some prestigious commissions and exhibition opportunities since leaving college. However it was not until Darren discovered his love for the 'still-life' that his career really took off. Taking his work locally and nationally his works have started to attract critical praise "Bathed in varying light conditions, he arranges and describes everyday objects with delicate sensitivity. They have a delicious attention to detail. Baker's paintings also suggest a human presence, the objects are seemingly left in a natural state yet are so artfully organized" (International artist magazine) This swell of interest in Darren’s work led to his decision to open a gallery exclusively featuring his work.'
After graduation Darren exhibited in London and at the age of 23 was invited to exhibit at a UK millennium show in New York. In the same year he was appointed official artist of The Professional Footballer’s Association.
Darren has received commissions from many blue-chip galleries, companies and leading personalities. He has exhibited widely, through North America, Japan, Europe and UK. In London both the royal academy and mall galleries accept his work. Darren’s paintings hang in private and public collections at home and abroad.
He works intensively every day in his studio in Saltaire, the famous Victorian textile village.
Darren is working to organise a show that fully describes his range. He has worked on subjects for companies and galleries, stretching from still life, interior, portraiture, figurative, equestrian, landscape, ballet and sport. Indeed he is currently receiving acclaim for his painting of Jonny Wilkinson and England’s rugby world cup triumph. His portraits are much sought after, having produced footballer of the year portraits for The PFA (Ruud van Nistelrooy and Teddy Sheringham). Even to the extent that portraits of Prince Charles and Tony Blair hang in St James Palace and 10 Downing st respectively.
Acknowledging the support he has received over the years, the artist is pairing up with The Princes Trust to help raise funds for this charity. Receiving ongoing help and assistance, especially from his business mentor Bill Nicholls, Darren wishes to aid the trust with sales from the show plus an auction on the evening. Indeed plans are underway for a Princes trust celebrity patron to unveil the show and set it off on a winning start.
Ultimately though Darren hopes his exhibition will reach and be enjoyed by as many as possible. That his naturalistic paintings and drawings can be understood and appreciated by so many is Darren’s greatest joy.
