The public opening of Dialogues: Latin American Art from the Coleccion Cisneros, an exhibition at the Museo de Arte de Lima, in Peru, will be held July 23. The exhibition, comprising ninety-five works drawn from the Coleccion Cisneros, is organized by the Fundacion Cisneros in collaboration with the Museo de Arte de Lima, and is curated by Ariel Jiménez, curator at the Colección Cisneros. Dialogues is the first exhibition to present works from the three areas of deepest concentration of the Colección Cisneros: contemporary art, geometric abstraction from the 1940s to the 1970s, and Latin American landscape, including works by painter-explorers. In so doing, it provides a broad view of the breadth of Latin American art, and stimulates a "dialogue" among diverse works, revealing sometimes surprising relationships between quite different artworks and aesthetic traditions.
The Colección Cisneros focuses on modern and contemporary art from Latin America; and includes as well Latin American landscape from the seventeenth century to the present day; Venezuelan colonial art; and the drawings, diaries, and artifacts of French artist-explorer Auguste Morisot. The Colección is the centerpiece of a constellation of programming developed and administered by the Fundación Cisneros.
Through an active lending program, ongoing educational initiatives, and a dynamic award-winning Website, the Colección Cisneros promotes global awareness of modern and contemporary art from Latin America, uses the visual arts to help develop critical-thinking and expressive-language abilities among Venezuelan schoolchildren, and enhances scholarship on modern Latin American art. Director of the Colección Cisneros is Rafael Romero; curator is Ariel Jiménez.
