Sullivan Goss - An American Gallery is proud to present "TROUBLE" a new and exciting body of work by R. Kenton Nelson. In the exhibition the artist ushers us into a dream. Deceptively simple at first glance, in a narrative style both familiar and singular, his paintings depict precise moments in idealized settings. With rough-hewn edges shaved away and reveries embraced, time stands still and our culture's possibilities both inspire and puzzle us. Nelson traces the memories of lovers not embraced, promises unfulfilled and destinies withheld.
Informed by an Americana influenced by the WPA and its champions as well as his great uncle, Roberto Montenegro, the Mexican Muralist who was a contemporary of Rivera, Orozco and others, R. Kenton Nelson's work implies a story line that we, the viewers, are seemingly familiar with. Executed on both board and canvas, his paintings are precise, saturated and polished; Wonderful perspectives on the world around us brought forth through the vision of a truly great exponent of narrative construct.
R. Kenton Nelson has shown extensively in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and Santa Fe in both solo and group exhibitions. His work is held by many major collectors and institutions and has graced the covers of the New Yorker, Coast and Southwest Art magazines to name but a few. He has also served on the faculties of both the Otis Parsons Art Institute in Los Angeles and the Academy of Art in San Francisco.
Sullivan Goss an American Gallery presents an exciting selection of 19th, 20th and 21st century American art.
