"Mizzy: Timelines"
2004-10-26 until 2004-11-20
Artbank Gallery
London, ,
UK United Kingdom
When we at Artbank originally saw Mizzy's work we didn't know anything about 'ex London model Suzanne Mizzy' and we viewed her art the way we view dozens of other artists works - but noticed something 'different'. The paintings were fresh, they were original, they had meaning and the artist's genuine enthusiasm for her work underlined a confidence not often witnessed.
Mizzy's work portrays contemporary, abstract imagery capturing shifts of mood and expression using mediums of acrylic and metal leaf on canvas. Like many of the more creative artists Mizzy is self taught. Her paintings can sometimes appear fragile, sometimes dramatic but are consistently fluid with engaging use of colour. They are inspired by architecture and the naturally occurring distressed effect on walls and buildings and driven by exploration of the spirit.
What we have firmly established at Artbank is that most visitors to the gallery, corporate and private, genuinely like Mizzy's work. They find the paintings to have qualities that other works do not. 'Peaceful', 'relaxing', 'spiritual' are words often heard and this is fully supported by the fact that people regularly buy her work and that is the only real test for any artist or gallery.
This is the second solo show that Artbank have held for Mizzy and we feel this new body of work fully establishes her as an artist to contend with. That Mizzy is passionate about her work is undeniable. We believe that when you own an original painting by Mizzy you also possess a little piece of her soul.
