"UPRISING: Recent Paintings and Works on Paper by Michele Liebler"
2004-11-04 until 2004-12-04
First Street Gallery
New York, NY, USA United States of America

During November, First Street Gallery in New York presents UPRISING: Recent Paintings and Works on Paper by Michele Liebler. Since the early Dutch still life paintings of Jan Steen to the Kitchen interiors of Chardin, artists have been painting images of bread. How does a modest subject become the source for so many paintings? Ms. Liebler's paintings and works on paper in this exhibition focus on these traditions in a contemporary format.

Eileen Watkins in the Star Ledger, called Liebler a "soulful" painter who "has a particular gift for giving inanimate objects personalities." William Zimmer, writing in The New York Times, characterized her work by remarking that "looking outward is something of a leitmotif." He described her tense, fronal Self-Portrait in the Studio as "compelling".

First Street Gallery promotes their artists and art with an absolutearts.com Gallery Portfolio. View more works at First Street Gallery at: http://galleries.absolutearts.com/galleries/firststreetgallery
