George Billis Gallery, L.A.
Los Angeles, CA,
USA United States of America
George Billis Gallery, L.A. will showcase the works of San Francisco-based painter Daniel Phil concurrent with a group photography exhibition from January 4 - February12, 2005. Daniel Phill will exhibit recent paintings that employ an expressionist style to render flowers and foliage, balancing biomorphic shapes with explosive brushwork. Working in acrylic and other media, the artist uses color to evoke a psychological role in animating and further defining forms, creating works that are both organic and unrehearsed.
Daniel Phill holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Painting from Stanford University, and a Bachelorís Degree from the San Francisco Art Institute. His work can be seen in the permanent collection of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco, as well as numerous private and corporate collections.
Also on exhibit will be the photographs of gallery-represented artists, which include Robert Flynt, David Halliday, Pedro Isztin, Lilla LoCurto & Bill Outcault, Victoria Ryan, Philip Stein, and Joanne Thornton. In connection with the paintings in our main gallery, many of the works in this exhibition will include images that explore nature, while other photographs highlight the human form. Photographs on view will showcase botanical studies in both hand-tinted black & white, and mixed media color collage, in addition to classic portraits, and haunting figure studies paired with cold, empty interiors.
The George Billis Gallery opened in the heart of the Chelsea Art District in Manhattan eight years ago and has now expanded to the west coast with George Billis LA. The new Los Angeles gallery will host paintings, photography and works on paper by regional, as well as national artists.
