River Gallery is a fine art gallery located in historic downtown Chelsea Michigan representing both emerging and established artists. We are coordinating a "call for entries exhibition" for the Great Lakes Area, juried by Sean Ulmer, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the University of Michigan Museum of Art.
History
River Gallery, a fine art gallery formerly located “upstairs” in historic downtown Chelsea has just
completed a 3,200 square foot renovation of an historic 1898 Main Street building. Since their
beginnings in 2000 the gallery has hosted exhibits for Gerome Kamrowski (1914-2004), Mignonette
Yin Cheng, sculptor Wendel Heers and other well known national and regional artists. The gallery
features paintings, sculptures, textiles, ceramics and prints. Since moving to this lovely old building
the gallery has also hosted corporate, private and musical events.
Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Thursday 11-5 Friday and Saturday 11-8, Sunday 12-4
Juror
University Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art Sean Ulmer
joined the UMMA staff in July 2001. He came to this newly created
position from the Herbert F. Johnson Museum at Cornell University,
where he had a broad curatorial profile as Assistant Curator of
Painting and Sculpture. Prior to his five years at Cornell, Sean was
Exhibitions Coordinator at Ohio State University's Wexner Center
for the Arts-one of the nation's leading centers for the exhibition
of contemporary art. Sean received a B.A. in Art History from the
University of Toledo / Toledo Museum of Art and his M.A. in Art
History from Ohio State University.
Awards
River Gallery is honored to have Sean Ulmer as juror for our first
competitive exhibition and is pleased to offer an award of $2,000 for his selection of Best in Show,
$1,000 for first prize and other prizes totaling $2,000.
