The artist, Duy Phuc Nguyen, says: "I paint because every single time I do, Iím surprised. A texture, color, something I've never been
able to imagine, emerges and that process absorbs me even
more than the result. My work is abstract and inspired by materials, a burned or rusted city building, for example.
The way such materials react to light is often very beautiful and made all the more so because the process is accidental."
About the artist:
Duy Phuc Nguyen was born in Ho Chi Minh City in 1967, his family moved to Canada when he was 8. Mainly self taught and taking lessons in basic techniques with a local artist, Nguyen became skilled at portraits and landscapes, showing in several
group events. In his early twenties, his work became
increasingly abstract, the style he works in today.
In 2003 Duy Phuc Nguyen had his first solo exhibition in Montreal.
Since then he has had other exhibitions in Toronto and the USA.
