New Zealand Artists Mel Sebastian H and Anna Korver will be presenting a joint exhibition of both painting and sculpture at the Christchurch Arts Centre's 'Gallery O' from the 23rd - 29th May, 2005. Both artists' works provoke the viewer to reach out and touch in order to defy what the eye sees. The title of the exhibition describes the warm and earthy hues that are celebrated in an eclectic mix of mixed media paintings and sculptures.
Mel Sebastian H maintains that her current works are not just for viewing “My work intends to engage the compelling sensation of touch.” Those who have viewed Mel Sebastian H’s works often reach out to defy or investigate the liquid, grainy and metallic appearance.
Mel Sebastian H's works are included in private collections all over the world; including Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, United States of America, South Africa, Canada and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Anna Korver continues her work with the figure, mainly in the medium of wood, though shehas also worked with paper mache, metal, resins and stone. Korver is interested in the female form with respect to contemporary issues of relevance, though her work is often inspired by images and themes which reoccur throughout history.
Seaview Brut, St Pierre's Sushi and The Village Grape are endorsing these two talented, emerging New Zealand artists by way of sponsorship of this event.
The exhibition will surely delight and challenge viewers with a cornucopia of visual stimuli.
