Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning presents “Capturing a Moment-ito,” an exhibition of contemporary art in various media exploring the notion of a “moment in time,” from June 24th through August 20th 2005. Nine Latino artists will bring to life, via depictions of travel, memory and body, the concept of the “moment-ito.” In English, the term “moment” refers only to an instant of time, whereas the Spanish terminology denotes the complete extension of an instant, encompassing a psychological movement, an internally consistent series of thoughts or a situation of contextual events that may last from “one instant to several hours, days, sometimes even years.”
Organized by a Guest Curator, Mónica Ramírez-Montagut, PhD, this exhibition examines psychological aspects of the Spanish word “momentito.”
Participating artists include: Andres Basurto, Karla Carballar, Alfonso Cantù, Erika Harrsch, Claudia Joskowicz, Gabriel de la Mora, Domingo Nuño, Gino Rubert, and Karina Aguilera Skvirsky.
This exhibition is supported by the Jerome Foundation in celebration of the Jerome Hill Centennial and in recognition of the valuable contributions of artists to society.
JCAL is a non-profit organization that offers visual, performing and literary arts, arts education, and artists’ programs to encourage participation in the arts and to contribute to the cultural enrichment of Queens and the Greater Metropolitan area.
