Allison Warren received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI. Her show entitled scribbles will be on exhibit in the Front Street Gallery from June 27 to July 31. The artist’s work is a body of drawings made of repetitive calligraphic markings, signatures, and line fragments which compose reminiscent of handwriting notations, thought mappings, or bundled scribbles. They become documents that trace the mark of the hand over time.
The artist states that “the accumulation of these markings provides direct evidence of our unwavering urge for physical contact with the material world”. The drawings provide the site upon which to consider the volatile role of the hand mark in contemporary culture.
Founded in 1977, the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) is a vibrant research and development center for the art of today and tomorrow. Through interdisciplinary presentation, education, community studios, and art therapy, we actively challenge both artists and audiences to new levels of creative activity, collaboration, dialogue and healing.
