"Fabric Art: On and Off the Wall - Marjan Kluepfel and Connie Taxiera"

This creative duo transforms fabric and thread into glorious art. Leaves and flowers inspire Connie’s vivid cloth bowls, baskets and vases. She creates her vessels by fusing fabric to layers of cotton duck, shaping with darts and finishing with rows of random stitching. Large floral and foliage pieces burst with delectable colors. Her new textile vases would look striking with dry flowers and branches, but are elegant by themselves.
Marjan has lived around the world (the Netherlands, Australia, Hawaii, and Southern US). The natural wonders of these locations inspire her art quilts. Using many techniques including fabric dyeing, painting, printing, pleating, and machine embroidery, she “paints” lovely landscapes and complicated designs. Amazingly, Marjan fashioned a birdhouse from thread. Wrens can’t build a nest inside, but it makes a whimsical room decoration. Both Connie and Marjan hope that everyone will enjoy their show as much as they have enjoyed making this exceptional fabric art.
