"Architecture for All: Celebrating Durban Architecture Week"

Architects in Durban will be showcasing their talents in a variety of exciting and innovative ways at the KZNSA Gallery during the week 18-23 October. The entire gallery complex will be transformed by an interactive display. The Main Gallery will showcase a wallpaper of drawings, photographs, doodles, postcards, sketches, posters, banners and anything interesting found in an architect‚s office! Also on display will be a selection of architectural models.
The Mezzanine Gallery will house digital & video installations of a variety of projects and events, as well as a display of furniture and other products designed by architects. In additional an open lounge using furniture found in architects‚ lounges will be installed, and will include a bookshop filled with design books.
Product developed by architects will be on sale and everyone is encouraged to roam around, sit down, browsegenerally make themselves at home!
Events are planned for every evening during the week.
The show opened on Tues 18th October 6pm with a talk by Albie Sachs (Justice of the Constitutional Court of South African and great architectural enthusiast). Ravi Naidoo - the Host and Founder of the Design Indaba is the evening‚s guest speaker. Thereafter, there are variety of talks, workshops and other events showcased at the gallery and around Durban. Programme with details will be available from the KZNSA.
Of note is an Art & Mosaic Workshop to be run by Jane du Rand at 10am on Wednesday 19th October and a Career Information Opportunity for school pupils on Thurs 20th October, 10am- 3pm. Students and professional architects will be available to offer advice and engage with scholars in a series of tasks aimed at encouraging a future in architecture.
This is your chance to see selected homes and buildings around Durban, delve into the mind of those who design them and check out the products they have on offer! It is designed to be informative, experiential and fun - don‚t miss it!
