The RWA in Queens Road Bristol launched its annual open exhibition on Sunday 23rd October the ever-popular Autumn Exhibition. Over 1500 works of art were sent in for selection and the panel of judges spent nearly a week making their final selection, choosing over 500 works to be displayed. This popular exhibition includes watercolours, oil paintings, prints including woodcuts and etchings, sculptures made of stone and cast metals such as bronze, photographs and architectural drawings.
The RWA Autumn Exhibition is an ideal way of finding an original piece of art to buy and this year the majority of the works will be for sale. With prices ranging from around £100 to £20,000 the exhibition is a good opportunity for established and budding collectors who would like to own an original artwork. Artwork is available for sale through the Arts Council of Englands Own Art purchase scheme, which offers interest free credit on the purchase of arts and crafts up to the value of £2000.
The popular exhibition includes work by much-loved locals as well as internationally renowned artists and the exhibition is the most widely visited in the RWA programme. This exhibition has something for gallery visitors of all ages and tastes.
Prof Andrew Stonyer the chairman of the selection committee said We had to be pretty brutal in our selection this year as the standard was very competitive, however I think that the resulting exhibition is one of the best in recent years.
The exhibition runs until the 10th December, there will be free gallery tours led by Academicians every Saturday at 2 pm. For further details of events at the RWA visit the education pages of the RWA website www.rwa.org.uk.
