2005-12-02 until 2005-12-22

Chicago, IL,
USA United States of America
The Midwest Paint Group, (MPG), announce their first Chicago exhibition, which runs at the 33 Collective Gallery in Zhou B. Center from December 2 through 22. This exhibition features the paintings of Bob Brock of Missouri, Philip Hale of Ohio, Timothy King of Illinois, Michael Neary of Indiana, and Barbara Lea and David Rich of Minnesota. Their work includes landscape, still life and figurative compositions.
Noted painter and Art theorist Gabriel Laderman, in the program introduction to the exhibit, describes the group as being a part of a contemporary movement of figurative painters “who have been profoundly influenced by modernist abstraction”. Explains Laderman, “their work comes out of abstraction and engages with forming methods derived from Cubism, Mondrian and the Fauves as well as with the motif before them. They are thus fundamentally different from artists who are looking backward at representation. They are looking forward to the possibilities available in modernist construction and sensibility when applied to the motif, its form and space”. Laderman adds that the work of the group “requires your attention because it is unlike most figurative work seen in galleries, today”.
The Opening Reception is on Friday, December 2 between 6 and 10PM, and there will be a Third Friday Reception on December 16 between 6 and 10PM. MPG artists will attend both receptions.
