National College of Art and Design graduate Ciara Foster’s exhibition ‘No Flight Plan’ opened Friday 10th February 2006 at the South Tipperary Arts Centre, Nelson Street, Clonmel and runs up until 4th March 2006. The show features sculptures based on coastal birds, caught in the motion of flight. Each bird represents Ciara’s interpretation of avian sealift. Ciara’s work draws on inspiration from the seascape and its surroundings. This setting provides her with an endless supply of raw materials, and inspiration. The act of collecting material, such as twigs, branches and jetsam, in addition to taking in her surroundings and observing, is as important as creating the art pieces.
Ciara Foster is a Visual Artist. She completed a first class honours degree in design at NCAD, where she specialised in embroidered textiles and a Masters in Design also at NCAD. She has exhibited in many group exhibitions both within Ireland and abroad. This is her first solo exhibition. In 2004-2005, Ciara completed artist residencies at, “Draiocht Art Centre”, Blanchardstown; “Roundstone”, Galway; and at “The Hallfarm Centre for Art and Education”, Vermont USA. She has also been the recipient of an Arts Council Travel and Mobility Award in 2004. Ciara has completed various private commissions both in Ireland and abroad.
