"Call for Artists: Curating a Better World - Tenth Anniversary Show"
2006-03-10 until 2006-06-30
Workmens Cirle: Arbeter Ring SoCal District
Los Angeles, CA,
USA United States of America
Since opening in 1996, A Shenere Velt Gallery at The Workmen's Circle has become the address in Los Angeles for alternative art with a humanistic,
countercultural message. The Gallery has sponsored 62 completely different
exhibitions, involving hundreds of artists, including a majority of women
and (so-called) "minority" artists.
The achievements of these ten years will be celebrated with Curating a
Better World. Artists are invited to donate a work, or works, of art, which
will sell for $50 each˜affordable, accessible, socially relevant art
(loosely considered), for any budget˜as a benefit for the Gallery, enabling
it to forge on for a second decade of promoting progressive cultural work.
Curating a Better World will run from Sunday, July 9 through Friday, August
25, 2006. All works will be priced at $50, or 5 for $200. Artworks should
preferably be signed on the back. Gallery visitors will acquire what they
truly love as art, not just what has a fancy or well-known artist‚s name.
Please send confirmation by mail or e-mail as soon as possible. Works should
arrive in the Gallery by Friday, June 30, but may be sent any time during
the month of June.
A Shenere Velt Gallery is part of The Workmen‚s Circle/Arbeter Ring, which
has been active in Southern California since 1908, dedicated to Jewish
culture and social justice.
A Shenere Velt means "a more beautiful world" in Yiddish. Regular Gallery
hours are Monday-Thursday, 10-5; Friday, 10-3; and by special appointment.
